I was super nervous going into Jackie just because it was such a hard sprint once off the rower and my time in training was ok but not where I wanted it to be. I rowed about a 4:04 and was one of the last of the rower but went straight to the bar and started doing thrusters afap. I listened to the announcer as I was going and started passing people quickly. I paused after 35 for about 5sec with the bar in the hang then knocked out last 15. Finished these at 5:50 then started pull-ups at 6:00 i believe. I was then one of the first to the pull-up bar, did a set of 15 then 5/5/4/1 i literally fell off on my last one and jumped right back up and ran to the finish line. I couldn't believe I did a 7:11 Jackie. The first time I did it in training on May 10th I did it in 8:22 i think. And 2 weeks prior I did a 7:38 so big improvement. My arms were on fire after this and I felt like I was going to throw up for like 15min after wards but finally cooled off.
Event 2:
I was still super nervous for this one only because if the chance of DNF, I hadn't missed 155 in training but it just still scared me. I lost my balance a little on rep 2 coming up from the squat but was fine and slowly got rep 3. I was relieved after that and I think 160 was the easiest ha. Went for 165 and got it for all 3 but it was a fight for my shoulders. Legs were fine but once I put the bar down I knew 170 would tax me too much for the burpee mu. I had about 3 min left and just sat on my weights and rested.
Event 3: 21 MU
I stuck to my plan of 4 the first minute and 3 emom after that but somehow around minute 4 I got away from my pacing and when I went up for mu 18 i almost missed the dip and looked at the clock and realized I had 2 min left to get 3 more mu (21 was my goal) I realized i somehow got way ahead of my pacing. I rested 30 seconds because I didn't want to miss a mu. The last 3 were tough but I got them in. 22 was my best in training but that day I only hit 155 for 3 and missed 160 on the OHS so did less work.
Event 4: 49 db Snatches
I was strangely excited for this one. I liked training it. I think because I liked 3 of the 4 movements and they were strengths of mine and the 100s ctb were just a challenge and I thought of each movement as a separate workout almost. I did the wb's 25/15/10/10/10/10/10/5/5 in about 4:50 :20 slower than practice. Shoulders were starting to burn more than training so I rested a few more secs. Got to c2b and started with sets of 3 getting almost 15reps done in minute 1 and then 12 per minute for a few minutes after that then went to 2's and just tried keeping my pace of 10 per minute. I did these in just over 9 minutes I think which was a big pr, i basically tried to do 100 for time because they dont affect my pistols. Started pistols right around the 15 minute mark and just went as fast as I could only resting when walking from number to number. Got to db snatch with about 4:30 left on the clock. My back was starting to get very tight at this point but just did sets of 10 as fast as I could then would rest for like 3-5s. Got through 49 DB snatch which was 14 more than training. Very happy with this workout.
Event 5: 4:57
I was pretty excited about this one. But my hamstrings butt and lower back were still a bit tired. I knew this would be the case because it happened when I tested it. The DL felt a bit heavy in warmups but that didn't shock me. I stuck to my game plan and did 8-7-6 6-5-4 5-4 on the dl and did my bj at a steady pace. I got no repped on 2 bj 1 in my set of 21's and 1 in my set of 9's and I also tripped on a bj at the end of my 9's so that all probably cost me :10 but I still improved my time by :15 and was pretty happy.
Event 6: 15:03 - no credit for lunge
Well I knew this would be my worst event and it was even harder knowing it was on day 3 not day 1 but I was gonna fight and grind and give it all I had. I did my 100 du ub then went into hspu doing 5/5/5/5/4/1/3/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2 They took my about 7 min i think or just under. DU took 1 min..I just know I was at about 8 min when I got to t2b. I went to fast sets of 2 on hspu cause I knew that was the only way I was going to finish with out burning out or bombing them. I did 5's as long as I could but when those started slowing too much I just went to 2's. Last time I did this workout in training I lost control of my mental state on the hspu and freaked out cause they were taking forever. This time I remained calm and composed and it made the world of difference. I got to t2b and did 15/5/5/5/4/3/3 these felt good. Got to s2o at about 10:12 I think. Did 5/5 5/5 3/3/2/2 the last set of 10 was the worst. I was coming close to failing. I finished those with 14:30 on the clock and started lunging as fast as I could and got about 10ft from the halfway point. I wanted more time for the lunge so bad because that was the easiest for me. But I only got 15 of the s2o in training so this was a big improvement.
Event 7: 6:24
Event 7: 6:24
Went as fast as I could, I just wasn't fast enough on rope climbs. Some of those girls were fast! I need to get better at these. I did my cleans in really fast singles but my rope climbs started to slow by the end. I still did this :20 than a few weeks ago so I made progess which is all i could ask for.
I finished 15th in my region, I tied the girl in 14th but she had a higher place finish than me. I was just 3 points away from top 12 going into Sunday but I lost that after event 6. I finished 128th in the world after all the regional scores were put in, so not bad. The 100s was my highest finish in the world rankings lol and in the region my ohs was my highest finish.
128 (1,223) | Brandi Bonifay | 15 | CenE | 156 | 07:11 | 150 | 165.30 | 140 | 07:10 | 118 | 25:52 | 194 | 04:57 | 280 | 15:03 | 185 | 06:24 |
Thoughts/Feelings:
Well I am very happy with my results for many reasons. I felt like I was prepared as I could be. I felt like I kept control in each workout and executed as well as I could. I only got 2 no reps all weekend and I was very happy to only get 2. My goal was to hardly get any. I knew I had no room for no reps if I wanted to have decent times for my region. The competition in my region I felt was very deep.
As far as how my body felt, I didn't start to get sore till after Event 4. I woke up Sunday morning a bit sore but nothing out the ordinary. It didn't affect me and my energy level was still good. Hands didn't rip all weekend. I got a little blood blister after the 100s but nothing compared to some of the other girls. This weekend felt easier than the mock weekend in Scottsdale and the OC Throwdown. I think it's just that I was well conditioned for the volume. I do think I came down with a mini flu or sickness or something friday night. I felt awful when I woke up Saturday morning. Throat was sore and my head hurt. I took some medicine and just ignored the symptoms and went on with my warmups like usual. I new I could fight through it, I have before in college when playing soccer. When I was in the shute thing to go out on the floor for my workout I started sweating like crazy..so weird. I just tried to concentrate on the workout and ignore it. After the 100's was over I sat down with Mike and broke out into another clammy cold sweat..I looked at him and said I seriously think I'm breaking a fever lol. I went back to the hotel and rested and then felt good as new for event 5..I dont know what it was but I'm glad I ignored it so that it mentally didn't affect my workout.
I woke up Monday morning very sore and tired. I had an early flight home and the lack of sleep killed me. I took a 2hr nap and just chilled yesterday and went to bed and got 9 hours last night I think and feel way better today. Body is still sore but not as bad. My knee was hurting yesterday, i think from all the pistols and my right shoulder is a bit achy. Hopefully with a weeks rest it will all feel better.
I want to continue to work on my strength and oly lifting as well as my gymnastics. I feel I made huge improvements in these areas the past 8 months but still need to improve on them. I'd like to hear your thoughts on my regional performance as well and thoughts on the upcoming year :) I think we skype soon so if you want to save it for then thats fine! Thanks for all the great coaching and advice/help leading to regionals!
